Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven is the first book in the New Adult series. Cassie Taylor takes us on a majorly angst ridden ride of the past now that Ethan Holt has come back into her life.
We learn that Cassie and Ethan met in theater school when they were bot auditioning for the same program. They both subsequently get in and begin this tumultuous love/hate friendship. When the two are cast as the lead roles in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet lines become blurred and these two find themselves stumbling into a mass of emotions that neither was ready for.
Fast Forward to the present and things are obviously very different for the two. When they are cast in a play together Ethan takes his chance to try to right the wrongs of his past but Cassie is scared and hesitant and not sure whether she can let her heart go there again.
Andi Arndt narrates this thrill ride and as always does an excellent job of doing so. Her pacing and unique voice that she lends to each character only adds to the excitement of the story.
I really enjoyed this one. It was nice to have a change of scenery since these two meet in the theater. We get to go behind the scenes. We see them practice lines and do other exercises all the while we get a clear and non-confusing parallel story. I always hate when you cannot keep the story straight when the author does flash backs to the past and we do not have that issue in this book. Leisa Rayven did a wonderful job with keeping it all clear. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a great story, with some major steam (though not a lot of it – you have been warned), a huge dose of angst, and an ending that will leave you clawing at your reading device of choice for the next book! It is one of my most favorite reads of the year!
