This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Human trafficking, dubious consent, and strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.

This was my first book by the wonderful K. Webster, and I am punishing myself for waiting so long to indulge in the wonder that is her. Seriously, after I finished writing this review I’m putting myself in time out for being so silly and waiting so long. What can I say about this book, beside the fact that it was dark, edgy, hot, and so damn wonderful I never wanted it to end… Like ever! This book had so many twists and turns and whiplash moments, I made an appointment with my chiropractor.

This book starts off with a bang. I mean from the first page you are sucked in and wondering “wth” is going on here? Then when you get really into it and enjoying the ride that Bayley is experiencing… Bam!!! Darkness, blood, confusion and fear. Those are all the emotions that wash over Bayley before her 17 year old world as she knew is over. Don’t believe what you are told children, there are boogie men out there. There are monster and vicious things that go bump in the night, and Cole is one of those monsters lurking in the night waiting to take you when you’re not looking.

Over the course of the new few weeks, Bayley discovers just how terrible he is and the man who watched her grow up, who was a good family friend soon became the worst nightmare she has ever encountered. And in the end he sold her to the highest bid and did it smiling. Little did she know this ended up being a God send, and wonderful dream like existence with an equally wonderful dream man.

I could wax on and on about the wonders that are this book by an equally amazing writer, but then I’d ruin it for you, and that my friend is a nightmare I do not wish on you. In order to discover all the wicked, wonderful, and frightful things that take place in this story you must read this story for yourself. However, heed my warning it’s dark, it’s gritty, and it will leave a tarnish finish on your soul that you may never be able to wipe clean. Get your teddy, your blankie and your mama cause when you read the final pages of this tragically beautiful story, you are gonna need all three to mend your bleeding heart. Oh and it ends in a Cliffy. I know, I know, I’m pacing too.

I recommend this book to anyone who’s ever wondered just how far a person can be pushed, poked and pried apart before she shatters like glass.
