New York’s Finest #3
Releasing on March 29th, 2016
Forever: Grand Central
Vincent knows he’s not the most charming of the Moretti brothers. He prefers brooding to flirting, reading to talking, and he sure as hell isn’t about to give into his mother’s insistence that he ‘settle down with a nice girl.’ Luckily, Vincent’s gig as one of the NYPD’s top homicide detectives keeps him busy. As does his long-time partner, Jill Henley–a tough-as-nails cop with the face of an angel and smart mouth that makes Vincent crazy in all the worst ways.
After six years of working the homicide beat with the tight-lipped Vincent Moretti, Jill figure she knows him better than anyone. Which is not at all. But when their most recent case points to a potential serial-killer situation, the higher-ups send them on a rare undercover mission to a place no NYPD officer dares go: the Upper Eastside.
Now the bureau’s most antagonistic set of partners is posing as Mr. and Mrs. Brooks of Park Avenue. Spending 24/7 in the suspect’s territory brings them closer and closer to their killer . . . and closer to each other. Soon Vincent and Jill are playing good cop/bad cop in and out of bed, and Jill’s falling hard. But can she convince Vincent to give her a shot as partner in life, as well as at the bureau?
W-O-W… This series just keeps getting better and better in my eyes. If you have been keeping up, awesome news! we finally get Vincent Moretti and his partner Jill Henley’s story. We have seen their chemistry and straight up ignorance towards each other and their feelings since book 1. Hallelujah! We wait no more as it is their story & they are finally forced to see each other in a new light… and see how perfect they are FOR each other beyond their professional chemistry.
After 3 months of being gone Jill comes back to the force with a HUGE surprise. Surprise that spurs on our poor clueless Moretti into a huge case of ‘want what he can’t have’. Sure sure it looks like that on the surface but I think in this instance it is a good thing. It’s been TOO. DAMN. LONG!!! It fired some fire under his ass but in the end poor ‘broken’ boy doesn’t know how to deal. So there is one thing that must be done! Bubbling chemistry and Jill stepping up her game to get her man!
Maria took a step closer, placed her warm wrinkled hands on Jill’s cheeks. “Sweetie, if you’d spent your entire life silently waiting—desperately wanting—someone to love you, and never having that gift even offered—would you know how to give it?”
Jill closed her eyes. “What am I supposed to do?”
Maria patted her cheek softly. “I think, if you want him . . . I think you’ll have to be the brave one.”
What made the story perfect for me is beyond the long awaited story of them coming to terms that they are perfect for each other and overcoming certain *cough, cough* obstacles (seriously read the book) is the murder case that they are on. It was a perfect case of “Who Done It” with an old Hollywood starlet. In my head even though the tale is set in modern time — I kept picturing the whole book in black and white with fabulous dresses and fiery passion.
When Vin and Jill weren’t on a case they were either hanging out together, pining for each other or in the company of Vin’s crazy family. Ooooh the fabulous crazy family makes me want to scour the streets and diners of NYC looking for the Moretti family to adopt me into their crazy clan.
“Whoa whoa,” Luc said, moving between the two women before a fight could erupt. “Two things. No fighting about cooking. Remember? That’s why we hosted this shindig at Anth’s place. Second thing, afternoon delight. Thought we agreed that Nonna’s geriatric sex life was off limits for family dinner conversation?”
Overall, for me this (so far) the strongest book in the series and I anticipate more from the rest of the Moretti Siblings…. Come on Elena & Marc!!!
