Blurb v2

She’s good at achieving her goals…

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, he’s fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.

‘This isn’t how I planned my life to be, at least not this soon, but I wouldn’t give it up for all the gold in the world.’

The Goal is the fourth book of the Off-Campus Series. If you have read my reviews on the last three books, then you know that I’m a huge fan of this series. Tucker has been in throughout the series and was known for being the most level-headed of the group. He didn’t have too much of a big role in the series but there was something about him that made me curious and anxious to get his book.

If you’ve read The Score, then you are aware of the huge bomb that Tucker drops on all the guys at the end of the book. In this book, we get to find out how everything began between Sabrina and him. It all leads up to Tucker informing everyone that Sabrina is pregnant with his child, and how they deal with it all.

“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Sabrina James.”

“No.” She smiles. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Sabrina grew up very poor, after being abandoned by her mother and left to be raised by her grandmother and disgusting stepfather, she vows to run fast from it all as soon as she possibly can. She wants to make something of herself so studies hard to achieve her dream of going to Harvard and becoming a lawyer. Sabrina also works multiple jobs to help with the bills and her schooling. So, when Tucker comes into her life showing interest she quickly lets him know that she doesn’t need any distractions and definitely doesn’t date. They agree to have a one night stand, although Tucker is confident he can convince her into more than just one night.

I liked Sabrina, not always, however, but I did admire her determination into making her dreams come true. I loved that she was independent, wasn’t ashamed of her sexuality, and went for what she wanted. She was a little too independent at times as she had trouble letting people in and letting them help her. This really frustrated me at times, especially when Tucker was being so amazing and patient with her and she would just treat him so bad. She was such a broken character who’d never been shown what love feels like that when Tucker did show her she would freak out and push him away. It was kind of sad, so I liked how persistent Tucker was.

Tucker never expected to fall hard and fast for Sabrina, but that is exactly what happened after one night with her. Sabrina is his perfect woman, the one he so desperately wants to claim as his own. Sabrina definitely doesn’t make things easy for him and after finding out she’s having his baby, he is more determined than ever in being there for her and their baby. Tucker was such an amazing character. I swooned hard for his southern charm that it became inevitable that he would win my heart completely. He was selfless, loyal and loving and sexy as hell. He would do whatever he could to help others before helping himself. I was also not expecting Tucker to have that dirty freaking mouth on him, but I’m not complaining because I loved every moment of it. I loved how supportive he was of Sabrina, he just melted my heart. He was perfect.

“You’re the one, Sabrina. There’s no one else for me in this world, nobody but you. If I was driving and saw you on the side of the road? You better believe I’d rip out a spark plug or two if it meant getting to spend even five seconds in your presence. You’re the fucking one.”

I will admit that the pacing of the first part of the book was a bit on the slow side. I definitely enjoyed seeing how their relationship came to be, but I was really frustrated by the back and forth thing going on between them because Sabrina was so hesitant. The second part is when things starting picking up. I still think it took Sabrina a little too long to realize and say how she felt about Tucker, but I was really glad that she finally did. The ending made it all worth it and left me with a smile on my face.

Overall, it was quite an enjoyable read. It may not have been my favourite of the series, but I freaking loved Tucker. He was the absolute best and will definitely not disappoint you.
