“Sinfully sexy and darkly beautiful, The Pawn will play games with your heart and leave you craving more!” – Laura Kaye, New York Times bestselling author

The price of survival…

Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.

There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.

My virginity.

A forbidden auction…

Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.

Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

“You play chess. Surely you know the many uses of a pawn.”

I am no stranger to Skye Warren’s writing but this one was a bit different for me. In all my readings of her work she always spins a dark tale that skates a fine line between making you feel uncomfortable and hot and bothered at the same time. Yet, somehow I expected things to be much more darker and sinister but maybe I have grown desensitized to the dark genre because I found myself falling in love so very easily with our anti-hero Gabriel Miller. Man hell bend on vengeance and revenge that completely annihilated our poor rich virgin girl Avery James.

Avery, who has lived a pretty sheltered and nun-ish life, has her whole life uprooted as the family name and fortune falls from grace from the society she grew up in. In order to make money to help take care of her father and hold on to shreds of her old life that mean something to her she falls even further. Willing to auction off the only thing left worth of value… her virtue… her innocent… her virginity. In a weird move the person to acquire her is the same man who has ruined her family.

“Soon, little virgin.”

“Don’t call me that.” My voice trembles only a little, revealing the turmoil inside me.

“What else should I call you? Princess? Darling?”

“You could call me by my name.”

He dips his head, his mouth right by my ear, his voice just a breath. “There’s only one thing I’m going to call you. Mine.”

From the moment that the auction ends she belongs to him. To a man who is clearly not a good man and yet… There is something redeemable inside of Gabriel. He tries to hide it but it is there. Or perhaps I am a deep romantic and want for that good to be inside of him. The story is full of angst filled with so much chemistry between the characters. The whole book ends up being entirely a slow seduction to the final act… the losing of virginity and when it does… O-M-G it is sooo hot!!! I had to open a window to bring some fresh cool air into the apartment. But seriously I will never look at chess pieces the same… and neither will you if you read it and I HIGHLY recommend that you do.

With that ending!… I can not wait until book 2 comes out… CAN’T… WAIT!!!
