Sometimes the best thing a good girl can do is make a bad decision.

Jessica has always been the girl with her head in the clouds and her nose in a book, only dating the “nice guys”. But when rough-around-the-edges Viking-biker-god, Mad Max, and his precocious little girl move onto her street, Jessica falls hard and fast for both of them.

Max is no stranger to women wanting to share his bed—and he’s always been more than happy to oblige them all. He’s lived wild all his life—that is, until a daughter shows up on his doorstep and he meets a redheaded angel down the block.

There’s nothing more he wants than to claim Jessica as his, to bring the gorgeous spitfire to his bed. But a man like him doesn’t get a happy ending with a woman like her. He’s got a whole other life, one he’s kept secret for good reason.

If Jessica found out what he really is, there’s no way she could love him. He should keep his hands to himself. But he’s Mad Max—he’s never done the right thing, and he’s not going to start now.

Warning: Contains a dominating alpha male who’s a lot more than he seems, and a good girl with a swirl of flavors under her vanilla.

“What do you want, Max?”
“You,” he answered without hesitating.

Jess is a hopeless romantic, who enjoys reading and dreaming of the day her soul mate will come into her life to sweep her off her feet. She is intelligent and successful in her career. She dates the ‘good guys’ but has yet to meet the one. Jess never expected to feel this attracted to Max, her neighbour who has plenty of women at his disposal. He’s a bad boy, the type of guy she’s never been with, but he was there for her when she really needed someone.

Max lives his life dangerously, but things change when he finds out he has a daughter who’s mom just recently died. Now it is up to Max to raise his daughter Piper. This is a huge change for Max but he is happy to be a father. He is also lucky to count on Jess to watch Piper when he can’t. He just hopes that he won’t end up falling for Jess because the attraction is very much present on his side. However, he doesn’t want to complicate Jess’ life by getting involved with her.

I really enjoyed this romantic storyline. I also really liked the slow build between Jess and Max. There was plenty of steam in this book and Max was deliciously alpha. I would have liked to have learned more about what Max was involved with. Instead, he would disappear and you wouldn’t really know what was happening. I think it could have made things more interesting. Max’s interactions with his daughter had my heart melting. I liked seeing his fatherly side come out, he was very protective of those he loves. I really liked Piper, she was such a cutie! Jess was so sweet and caring towards Piper.

“You, don’t get it babe. You’re a wish I never dared ask for, everything I ever wanted in a woman.”

Overall, this was a good read. There were some emotional parts in the story that added a bit of angst. There was steam with a touch of kink, and some heartwarming moments. I enjoyed the characters in this book, however, I did have a problem with how the story transitioned. This means that while the romantic storyline was the main focus–something I loved–we also had another storyline that involves Max’s line of work which remained pretty much a total mystery–something I wished it hadn’t. When something happened to Max that involved this second plot, it felt like it came from nowhere. It almost didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the story. This was the only reason I couldn’t give it a higher rating because it kind of ruined the flow of the story for me. Also, it seems that Max and Jess have a bit of backstory that was not included in this book so you may want to read the second book in this series if you would like to know how they met. Despite the few flaws of the book, I would say it was still an enjoyable read.

RULEBREAKER

9870959A woman with the heart of a revolutionary,
The mind of a pragmatist,
And the inappropriate humor of your tipsy BFF…

Born in California and raised in South Florida, I’ve moved around like a gypsy with a bounty on my head ever since. Along the way, I’ve worked as a community organizer, a professional matchmaker, an art teacher, a popular blogger, and a crisis counselor (to name a few). All the while, longing to have the guts and follow-through to do what I really wanted: to write and become a published author. That wish has finally come true and I am tickled pink with glitter over this good piece of fortune.

What else? Hmm…I love indie, lo-fi, complaint rock played on vinyl, wearing black because it’s slimming, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds),and making those close to me laugh ’til they snort. I’m a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but have now happily settled in the cutest lil’ town, Vienna, Virginia. I totally love hearing from readers so stalk me via social media or email me at HarperKincaid26@gmail.com!
