REVIEW: DIRTY LITTLE SECRET by Kendall Ryan

The start to a sexy new series from NYT bestselling author, Kendall Ryan…

She’s much too innocent for me, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting the sweet, young librarian. I’m dominating and possessive, and my control streak runs a mile wide.

The way she looks at me—like I’m one of the heroes in the books she loves, like I’m broken, and she wants to be the one to piece me back together—it only complicates things further. I’m nobody’s hero.

But there’s no denying my tragic past reads like one of her favorite literary classics. It’s raw. Visceral. Captivating. And together, we’re a perfect mess.

How am I expected to resist when the sexual sparks zap between us and set me on fire? The need to control, and claim her force my walls to come tumbling down, but when she learns my dirty little secret, will my world come crashing down with it?

The story continues in Dirty Little Promise, releasing October 9th.

** ARC provided in exchange for an honest review **

This author is no stranger to me. I have read a few things from her, but this type of book is a new take for her. This was a darker, edger, and sexier book than she has put out in the past. When I first read the blub for this book, I asked for an ARC right away, it sounded so good. The book was entertaining to read, however something felt off to me. I don’t know what it was really. I think it may have been a mix of a few things. I didn’t feel the connection all the way with Gavin and Emma, and boy did I want to.  I wished Emma showed a little more backbone cause the girl had it in her I truly believe that. Now don’t go thinking I didn’t enjoy this book cause I did. I had a hard time putting it down once I got started.

I thought Gavin was very hot, and I was dying to know his dark secret, and when you find out it’s a cliffy so if that’s not your thing you may want to wait till book two is out.  I really liked how he got Emma’s attention in the beginning of the book.  He slipped of his business card in the fish bowl at the local coffee shop, in hopes of winning a free muffin or something. Don’t worry Emma, I fell for it too. What a clever, clever man. Gavin was everything I look for in a book boyfriend, dark, sexy, and hella fun in the bedroom. However, how he handled Emma the first half of the book really made me want to slap him silly. I am glad he got himself together, and became the sexy man I know he was.

Emma, I really liked her too, and the role she played, there were times when I was like “really girl”. I wished she had more confidence and knew she was a beautiful woman, who deserves nothing but the best. Gavin came off as this guy who doesn’t care about her or anything but work, however he was so much more than just a rich business man, and I’m glad he finally let some of that come through with Emma.  There was a slight bit of a love triangle going on in the book as well, however I got the impression it was more so to prove Gavin wrong about his feelings for Emma. But I do think Conner (Gavin’s brother) did have feelings for Emma, but he knew she was hook, line, and sinker for Gavin all along.

I will most definitely be following this series, after the ending Ms. Ryan left us with you bet your sweet booty I will be counting down till book two. I also can’t wait to see what the brother’s book have in store as well. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a something dark and sinful to fulfill their nightly cravings with.

  1. I do want to read this author, but haven’t yet!! I will keep in mind that this has a little cliffhanger, so I think I will wait to read this one until book two is out. I do love those darker edgier reads sometimes.
