Dane James worked my
stepfather’s fields. He was the boy next door.
Strong.
Hardworking.
Forbidden.
From the moment we met, we were star-crossed
lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives,
but right from the beginning destiny had other plans.  She knew we would fall in love.  She knew we would fall apart.  Over and over again, like the curse of a
recurring nightmare.  Or the hope of a
familiar dream.
Our past was tumultuous.  Our future was bleak.  But the one thing we always had was the
beautiful now.

Until that was taken from us, too.

Oye my poor swollen eyes and tattered heart. Ms. Leighton has done it again! She has brought me to my knees and I bow before her. This was another epic story of love, loss, and everything in between. The Beautiful Now is one of those stories that will stay with you now, then, and always.

I can’t say much without giving things away. Things that you as the reader need to discover on your own, in order to get the full beauty of this love story. It’s so much more then a romantic love story too. It’s the love a mother has for her child, the love a woman has for her soulmate, even if they are star crossed lovers. Love knows no boundaries, or limits. It simply is and makes no apologies for it. Imagine what the world could be if we all loved freely and with out regulations.

The story or Dane and Brinkley spans over the course of 20 years. It’s told from Brinkley’s POV from both the past and present. I got so caught up in the story of them, that I nearly forgot to get my adulting done!! But it was totally worth the numerous nights of Chinese take out.

I’ve read everything by this brilliant author and I’m never let down, or disappointed. I recommend this book to anyone who’s ever tried to tell you who to love, and how to get there. To the young, innocent 12 year old in all of us.
