How long would you wait for love?

Max Kaufman was kicked out of his home as a teen and his life has been an uphill battle ever since. From addiction and living on the streets, to recovery and putting himself through nursing school, he’s spent the last ten years rebuilding his shattered sense of self. Now he’s taken a job as a private caretaker to Edward Marsh III, the president and CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Max soon learns Marsh’s multi-billion-dollar empire is a gold and diamond-encrusted web of secrets and lies.

The longer Max works and lives with the Marsh family, the tighter the secrets tangle around him. And his heart—that he’s worked so hard to protect—falls straight into the hands of the distant, cold, and beautiful son of a dynasty…

Silas Marsh is set to inherit the family fortune, but his father is determined his heir be the “perfect” son. Before Silas can take over the company and end its shady business practices, he must prove himself worthy…and deny his true nature.

Silas must choose: stand up to his father by being true to himself and his undeniable feelings for Max. Or pretend to be someone he is not in order to inherit everything. Even if it means sacrificing a chance at happiness and real love.

Jenny Review 2019

I’ve been on major a m/m kick recently. Finding a lot of new-to-me authors in this genre with amazing stories. So, when I found out the Emma Scott, who book Rush is still one of my top favorite reads was writing a m/m book, I jumped at the opportunity to read this book.

Max was kicked out of his house at seventeen after his parent found him with a boy. For many years he lived on the street, addicted to drugs and doing unimaginable things to survive. Nine years later his life is much different. Max has moved back to his hometown as an ER nurse, determined to try to help those like himself and reconciled with his parents. While at a NA meeting he is drawn to a stranger who sits in the back of the meeting, try but failing to be inconspicuous. Although the stranger is reluctant to engage at the meeting, one rainy night, this stranger let’s down his guard, letting Max in for a moment. When Max tries to comfort him, he puts up his wall and tells Max they will probably never see each other again. The stranger no knowing that their paths will cross sooner than either of them think.

Silas is the son of a pharmaceutical mogul. He is also a recovering addict. He goes to an NA meeting, where he sees Max speak. Although he not ready to tell his story, he cannot help but be drawn to Max. However, when Silas was seventeen, he was sent away to suppress his “unnatural urges”, going through unimaginable traumas to try to suppress the feelings he has.  The things he goes through are heartbreaking and still haunts him to this day. Despite trying to keep is distance from Max, Silas cannot help his attraction to Max, no matter how much he tries. Knowing that if he dares to act on these feeling he will lose everything that he has worked so hard to achieve. His father’s respect and the family’s business. There begin the war Silas wages against what is expected of him from his father and his feelings for Max.

Emma Scott masterfully crafted Max and Silas’ story. It’s about two people who have been hurt by the people who are supposed to love them unconditionally, simply for being who they are. Max is caring and understanding. Even though Silas pushes him away several times, he is still a shoulder for Silas to lean on. The traumas that both Silas and Max faces are unimaginable. There were times that my heart literally broke for them. Even with the hurt that they’ve went through, they are able to open themselves to each other. There are several obstacles that are placed in their way but once they overcome them the love, they share is unparalleled.  This was a story about survival. That love can conquer all. This book will probably be one of your tops reads for 2019, as it was for me.
