The second the test-the-sexy-scenes offer landed in my lap, I said yes.

After all, I've been damn curious about a few things I've read in romance novels. Do buttons truly go flying across the floor when you rip off a guy's shirt? Is staircase sex hella hot or does it leave you with a big old bruise mark on your back? And don’t even get me started on all that panty shredding, and whether it even works.

Time to find out as I embark on Project Sexy Scenes Research, at the request of my hotshot book editor bestie.

All I need is a willing scene partner. Enter Tristan, my best guy friend. The witty, tell-it-like-it-is, bearded hottie volunteers for the experiment.

He's also the guy who gave me the most devastating, toe-curling kiss of my life ten years ago. But nothing has happened since then.
And nothing will come between my panties and our friendship now since we have a plan to keep it PG.
But once the buttons start flying, all bets are off…

Nicole Review

5 pinkies up…aka 5 stars!

Sex and Other Shiny Objects by Lauren Blakely is a book 2 in the Boyfriend Material series, but it reads as a standalone book. I found this book to be totally swoonworthy, and I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Peyton and Tristan have been best friends since college, with an underlying “something more”. After Peyton’s failed engagement, she’s looking for a way to open herself up and get back in the game. So, she volunteers to help her bestie, Amy, with a project that involves testing out cliché sex scenes from romance novels. But, it takes two to tango. So, she enlists the help of her trustworthy friend, Tristan, to bust the myths, not considering how extremely close these experiments will bring these two.

First of all, let me say that I’m a sucker for a good rom com. And, this book reads like my favorite chick flick rom com style movies. It was cute and funny. I found myself holding my breath during the “will they, won’t they” moments. And, there were moments where I just wanted to reach into the book and slap these two characters silly for being hopelessly dense.

Tristan is the definition of a good man. He’s a successful business man. He’s a role model for his younger brother. He’s sexy, funny, kind, and thoughtful which is basically the quadruple prize. And, he’s genuinely a true gentleman.

And Peyton is his perfect match. Love has wronged her. Being a small business owner has challenged her. But, she’s creative and fierce. And, she’s as sincerely kind and good hearted as her soulmate.

I really liked this book a lot. It was sweet and cute and frustrating and sexy and rewarding all wrapped up into one. Definitely add it to your “to read” list if you’re a rom com sucker, like me.

Can’t wait to see what happens with Lola in book 3!
