Blurb

Two stories so deeply intertwined, you’ll think you know how they intersect…but you’ll be wrong….

 Zack Martin

The day I met Emily Bennett my whole world changed. Sure, we were just kids, but I was old enough to know my life would never be the same. She was my best friend. My destiny. My fate. I wasn’t wrong…I just didn’t know how twisted fate could be.

Nikki Fallon

After the death of my mother, moving from my dark and dreary trailer park to sunny California, I was focused on one thing – finding a sister I’d only just learned existed. Falling in love with him wasn’t part of the plan. But he filled a void I never knew was possible to fill. He had to be my fate. My destiny. Until the day I finally found out who my sister was…and how twisted fate could be.

EXCERPT

He looks up and I watch his eyes take me in.  Slowly.  They rake over me, dropping from my eyes to my glossed lips down to my exposed shoulders.  Taking his time, he follows the neckline of my simple, yet body contouring sundress, lingering when he reaches my full breasts.  I’m sufficiently covered, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t aware that the dress showed off my assets well.  Tight around my chest, gathering snuggly at the waist, with a scant amount of cleavage.  Just enough coverage to still leave something for him to imagine.  And I watch his face change as his imagination takes off running.

His eyes drift down my legs, tanned now from the eternal California sun.  Momentarily he’s lost in what he sees and doesn’t even notice I’m watching him leer.  Totally worth the extra effort getting ready tonight, I couldn’t be happier at the reaction I get.  Eventually, his eyes make their way back up to mine and I arch one eyebrow, letting him know he’s been caught.  A normal reaction might be to look embarrassed or perhaps even flustered a little.  But not Zack.  Instead, he flashes me a wicked grin.  “You look incredible.”  He’s the one doing the leering, yet I’m the one who ends up blushing.

Left Behind is a story about a young girl named Nikki. She has grown up taking care of her bi polar mother. It’s been tough living in a trailer in Texas. For the longest time she thought the only family she had were her mom and her best friend. After her mother passes away, she learns that she has an aunt that lives in California. Not only that, but she also has a twin sister she never knew about. She moves in with her aunt and hopes to find her sister without letting her aunt find out.

This book also tells you the story of Zack, a young guy from California who loves his girlfriend Emily. They met when they were nine years old and have been inseparable since. But time has changed them as they have grown into young adults. Emily is no longer the same girl he fell in love with. She cares about superficial things and he finds himself feeling conflicted about his feelings for her. Everything changes for him in an instant when his girlfriend passes away in a car accident. Now, all he feels is guilt.

Six months go by since the both Zack and Nikki’s lives changed so suddenly. And now life has brought them together. Nikki is starting school in California, and when she decides to go out for a run she sees Zack for the first time. Both of then are intrigued by one another. And as they start getting to know each other, they realize they have a lot in common. They understand each other, and make each other feel things they haven’t felt in a long time. The problem is, Zack feels guilty about his feelings for Nikki, and Nikki makes a discovery that could ruin everything.

This was really an enjoyable book. I was very interested when it came to learning about Zack and Nikki’s lives. I liked how we got to see how their lives were like before they met. I also very loved that fact that this was told in alternating POV. I liked the characters very much. Zack was super sweet and romantic. He had some frustrating moments but he was going through a lot. Nikki was quite mature for her age, which I really liked. She also had her moments but that is to be expected from young characters.

I will say that I was expecting this to be a whole lot more emotional than what I got. I was able to connect to the characters and did feel for them, but I didn’t cry or anything. There wasn’t a crazy amount of angst in this, there was just a little to keep things interesting. While I very much enjoyed the story line, I was able to guess what was going to happen next. Because of this, I wasn’t shocked by the big twist in the book. What I did love about this book, was watching Zack and Nikki fall for each other. It was so freaking sweet the notes Zack would give Nikki that it made my heart melt. I loved the ending! Overall, it was a wonderful YA romance. I was hooked on the connection between Zack and Nikki. I also enjoyed some of the secondary characters in this book. It was really great and something worth giving a try.

Dylan Scott is a New York trial attorney, wife and mother of four.  She believes her job as a trial attorney is a subcategory to the field of entertainment more than law.   With a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature she believed teaching English was a destined career choice until she realized her life long talent of “argument” could actually be her job.   A recent, fairly boring, midlife crisis resulted in a brief stint as a middle school English teacher which confirmed that she wasn’t ready to give up the law.   Dylan has also taught legal courses at the college level and worked with at-risk inner city youth in the roles of mentor and coach.  She is co-author Vi Keeland’s biggest fan.
