I put off this book for quite some time. Colleen Hoover is a wonderful writer and her books are usually 4 or 5 star reads for me. However, it is a given at this point that the story is going to be dynamic and usually hold lots of layers of heartbreak and pain as well. Once I heard that this book would be adapted into a movie I decided I should give it a go so that if I choose to see the movie I’d have the full unaltered story under my belt first. This was a definite 5 bean read for me. It had passion and love and some great hot sex if that is what you are looking for. It also had characters that walk a thin line between offering so much for you to love about them and wanting to yell and tear your hair out because you are so angry with them. As the parallel stories continue to run you learn more and more mostly of our Hero Miles, and the picture becomes clearer why he is so infuriating at times, as well as how someone who used to be every womans dream in spirit and character and not just looks turned into the person that he is when we meet him in the story.
Grace Grant and Deacon Lee narrated this one. I usually need time to get used to Grace Grants raspy voice. She often times sounds as though she needs to cough up something but she does do a wonderful job with voicing these characters and that rasp does help make her male characters more believable. As for Mr. Lee, I wasn’t as enamored with his storytelling capabilities. As he primarily told the parallel story I found myself torn between wanting to know what was going to happen and not wanting to hear him tell me it. That sounds harsh but it is true.
Overall, if you want a full and definitely original story that isn’t extremely predictable I definitely recommend this one. If you don’t mind shedding a few tears with your romance and giggles then this is also the book for you. I am very interested to see how this movie turns out.
