Blurb v2

They are the lost boys.

Sons of mafia mistresses expected to keep their fathers’ sins in the shadows. The lucky ones are forgotten.

Unfortunately for Valentino “Tino” Moretti, his brother Nova was too smart to be forgotten, and too valuable to risk when he resists a life of crime. So they punished Tino instead. Forced into the cruel world of the Sicilian Mafia at twelve, Tino was broken before he was old enough to know the man he was supposed to be. Now he’s what the mafia made him.

The enforcer.

A trained killer forbidden to love, but he did anyway. He’s loved Brianna all along.

Raw and beautiful, their romance was all consuming and far too dangerous. They were ripped apart a long time ago. It’s not until the borgata puts out a hit on her that Brianna falls back into Tino’s arms, churning up their dark past and unraveling all the Moretti brothers’ closely guarded secrets.

This isn’t the end of the story. It’s only the beginning, and it is brutal.

There’s a reason enforcers are considered too deadly to love.

“We have to be better than them. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Lost boys have to fly.” ~Carlo Moretti, original lost boy

Review Vik v2

“Learn to fight your own battles. Learn to fly. We have to be better than them. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Lost boys have to fly.”

K serious question… have you ever been taken apart by a book? I don’t mean slowly taken apart but blown to pieces and then slowly put back together. Not just back into original whole but with a piece shifted here and a piece missing there. Sure you still function and go about your day but that small bit has made a major impact as you do not feel the SAME! The Enforcer was that story of me… the story Kele chose to share with us… the story that has been on the backburner slowly bringing itself to a boil… making the lid rattle trying to tell it’s story… story that has had enough!!!

We have met the Moretti brothers, “bastardi of the Borgata”, a LOT through both series – UNTAMED HEARTS & the original BATTERED HEARTS, we saw how they worked, we saw the family dynamic — sure sure we got that but upon finishing this book… all I want to say is…

This book I was fortunate to read a bit ahead of time, every year that I read a Kele book it made our yearly Top 10 list for me. Why? Well because every year Kele rocks my world! If you are a fan you know exactly what I am talking about, if you are not… well I’m sorry but I feel bad for you. The writing gets superb each year, the story more complex, the characters more RAW.

AND BOY! Has this year’s Enforcer brought on the R-A-W. Having read this book somewhere in December… I am still applying antibacterial ointment on the wounds this book inflicted. Remember how I said you are not right after a certain book. Well, I am not. I’m hurt, I’m wounded, I’m a sobbing mess… I need my blankie and YET… I have never felt so great.

While the series promised to be dark it delivered on that with Marc & Chu’s story…. I will call it a warm up. What this story brought, well, to be honest, it brought everything. As I can say is that this is basically the Moretti’s story… The Early Years… Before they were Famous… Before they were Mafia…

“You don’t love a whore. Don’t ever forget that. Take from them. Use them. Don’t love them.”

She flinched as Tino said it, but all she could manage to choke out was, “Why?”

“Cause they’re love starved. They’ve been hurt and beaten for so fucking long they are desperate for kindness. Love them, really love them, and they’ll die for you. They’ll bleed for you. Like a fucking dog.

By any stretch was it a happy story turn dark, no no no, this was a pretty messed up story of 3 Moretti brothers navigating life without direction. Trying to survive the hard way and yet unwillingly being dragged even further into the darkness. This is essentially Tino’s story but to me, it felt like a story of all the Morettis.

The book is told in a flashback style, the present occupying the end parts of the whole story that is the past. Yes, this book is not over and the story is not complete and yet I can not say it is a cliffhanger. In any case, you need that mental break between the books. There is a lot that happens that although is fiction takes inspiration in a lot that is Non-Fiction (hint: check out the introduction).

He didn’t tell her to stop crying, he let her do it as he washed her body and tried to sooth her soul in a way only he could.

See how I have not mentioned any story line or what happens in this review? That is because it will do the book disservice. Not a single retelling can sum up the book because you need to feel the story. You need to step into Nova’s shoes to see reasons behind his action, you need to meet Carina in her young years to appreciate the woman who suddenly appears with a woman in her car on the front step of her other half… her step-brother counterpart Tino, you need to FEEL the connection between Brianna and Tino. There is no re-telling for this book, there is only deep feel for the characters and the shitty hand that is dealt to them.

Author QA v2

  • Favorite thing that came out of Tino’s mouth in Enforcer?

“You matter.” Because Tino was always coming from such a genuine place when he said it and he was the last man in the world who should be that compassionate and genuine!

  • What was the most fun scene to write in Enforcer?

There’s a scene that takes place in Nova’s closet. . . That was very fun. LOL! I loved writing it! Also, most scenes with Tino’s sister Carina are fun! So it’s hard to chose.

  • I know the book is technically Tino’s story but we got so much to know about Nova as well… having met all 3 brothers (and sister) who is your favorite Moretti (Romeo included)?

Well, I adore Tino. He’s a truly good person despite being such a dangerous, deadly hitman. . .It’s a strange combination that makes it impossible not to love him.

That being said. . I’ll have to honestly say Nova is my favorite. Not just my favorite Moretti, but likely my favorite character ever. When Nova is in a scene he dominates it and it’s hard not to love that!

About Author v2

Kele MoonA freckle faced, redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.

So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.
