WILL SHE, OR WON’T SHE…

Studious and sensible, the only thing Molly Wakefield wants to do is get through Senior Year and graduate. That, and hit the beach in her spare time. Maybe even read a book or two.

And things are going great — until the day she catches Weston McGrath, handsome star athlete and scholar, spying on her in study hall.

A tad creepy? Maybe.
Thrilling? Absolutely.

Why? Because Weston McGrath is one guy no one can get close to.

Despite her best efforts to avoid him, Molly and Weston form an unlikely friendship.

But it’s a friendship that comes with a price – because Weston cannot seem to stop screwing up.
Saying and doing all the wrong things. And who has time for an 18 year old “fixer-upper” that should know better?

Not Molly.

The series that starts off with Molly Wakefield and Weston McGrath as they are in the throes of High School drama. Their story is definitely standalone in the series but also set during the younger years, however no less hotter.

Sara Ney excels in creating some good fashioned teenage angst and quite dramatic acts for first loves. Weston is a typical hockey athlete and sticks to the stereotype closely. Molly is a studious popular girl while still not owning up to being popular. When the two characters meet we get a super angsty teen drama with an angle of ‘fake relationship”. Because of course the jock of the school wants a fake girlfriend to keep all the other girls away as he focuses on his future career. However, Molly is no bimbo, she has so many layers to her and their fake relationship quickly evolves into something else.

Have I mentioned Weston is a typical jock? Well just stating it again because he messes up a lot! So be ready to roll those eyes of yours.

There are hilarious secondary characters that I really do hope to see more of. Such as Molly’s BFF Jenna (whose moral compass is kind of broken and dipped into vat of sluttiness) and Matthew (professional hockey player aka jock himself and Molly’s over protective big brother).

In the end the book is quick fun read that hits the spot for a YA/NA craving.

Matthew Wakefield and Cecelia Carter are the definition of opposites attract. From the moment they laid their eyes on each other to the end, they were in some state of bickering. In the YA/NA series they seem to be the eldest of the group. Cecelia is finishing her masters degree and Matthew is a successful hockey player. Which makes them both around 23 years old, but they are both quite immature when it comes down to dealing with each other.

Matthew takes it to a whole new level of being an obnoxious hot jock, my god even I wanted to reach into the book and strangle him a bit. Cecelia was a spicy cracker of a girl with so much sass and hilarity. The best part is that she doesn’t even try act it, it just comes so naturally to her. So in overall, both were pretty strong personalities that clashed… a lot!

Sometimes it created some pretty hilarious situations that only got worse by the crazy secondary characters. For example, this was the perfect time for Weston to get his sweet revenge for the times Matthew played over-protective brother with his sister, Molly, made all that easier as she is Cecelia‘s roommate while in college.

Written in the dual POV (like the rest of the series) it was a fun read that had me chuckling all throughout it and it was an easy binge read session.

ABIGAIL DARLINGTON IS AWKWARD…

She will never be “that” girl. You know the one: that girl on campus, confident in her own skin. Always saying the right things. Putting herself out there. Knows how to talk to a guy without stammering.

Nope. Shy but clever, and easily embarrassed, Abby is fine being the wallflower in her circle of outgoing, beautiful friends; she would rather read about a sexy book boyfriend than actually have a live, breathing one.

…BUT CALEB LOCKHART IS WORSE.

Star goaltender for the University’s hockey team, Caleb is quiet and broody, preferring the solitude of his orderly, regimented life. He doesn’t like, or need people—and plans to keep it that way. One more year left of hockey and he’ll be long gone.

AWKWARD NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD.

Both their lives change the day that Abigail falls for Caleb. Well, falls directly on top of him, to be accurate. Because sometimes we don’t settle into love.

We fall there.

I feel like the entire series has been leading up to this glorious moment. A Kiss Like This is definitely my favorite of this standalone series. While Caleb “Showtime” Lockhart is a new character to the series, Abigail Darlington we met in He Kissed Me First as she is Cece’s quiet and socially awkward BFF.

Caleb and Abigail are so alike that it’s scary. Both are so socially awkward and both are so attracted by each other. Caleb really doesn’t play into the stereotypical hockey jock stereotype, he is super serious, shy, responsible, and just generally a grump when in social situations. Abigail is pretty much the same except minutes a grump, just give her a book, soft man’s/oversized pj’s, a corner and she will disappear. But I do have to admit she totally owns her personality, which is exactly why Caleb can’t stay away from her. Especially after seeing her climb out of second story frat house’s window and nearly killing herself. But like a good Cinderella she leaves something behind that is very treasured to her and for Caleb to return.

The two of them are definitely the cutest pair in the midst of their wild and obnoxious friends (both hockey jocks and the girls). But hey, they make the story so ridiculously funny.

Now that I am done with the series, I am sad. I want more! Can I have more Ms Ney (now I know the proper way to say it… rhymes with Guy, Pie, Tie, Cry)?
