#NewRelease REVIEW: ACROSS THE HORIZON by Aly Martinez

“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.” That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day

I found out about their affair. I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouth-watering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike.

Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine—or six.

Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it…

So does heartbreak.

“God, how is it possible for you to be this bad at slow?”

Tanner Reese is a successful chef, co-owner of a busy restaurant, and the star of his own cooking show. You think he’d have it all but that is far from the truth. Tanner is getting tired of having to take his shirt off for ratings instead of showing off his skills and dishes he cares about. He also has to deal with his crazy ex that is about to publish a ‘tell-all’ book that is full of lies. It’s because of this that he has sworn off women, that is until Rita enters the picture.

Rita Laughlin has worked her butt off to be the best picture-perfect wife she could possibly be for her husband Greg. While she has nailed that part she can’t help but feel distant and unhappy in her marriage. She doesn’t let herself really focus on it until her life comes crashing down on her when she finds out about her husband’s infidelity with a nurse in the hospital they both work at. Rita is devasted with nothing to her name and nowhere to go, she only knows one thing for certain, she will not be getting back together with Greg. When Greg confronts her telling her that she shouldn’t let that end their marriage, she is surprised when a very attractive man comes to her rescue.

‘…she was Rita. Beautiful, kind, generous, smartass extraordinaire. I hadn’t stood a chance after meeting that woman.’

Tanner and Rita had such great chemistry in this book, I didn’t want to stop reading. They just had this connection that was full of steam but also so much humour that had me busting out laughing at times. I loved these two, they brought out the best in each other and were very supportive of one another especially when they needed it the most. While I enjoyed their banter for sure I also really liked when they kind of argued, it was just so entertaining and cute. Rita was full of fire and could give as good as got which I thought was so great. I just loved them both as a couple and as individuals. There’s a reason why Tanner had a hoard of women in his fanbase, he was sexy for sure but he was also so funny and sweet. The way he interacted with Rita and just cared for her totally melted my heart.

There was some angst and definitely some moments that will hit you in the feels, but there were some comedic moments and sweet moments as well that were so heartwarming. I enjoyed the pace of the story and also really liked the epilogue. If you read “The Darkest Sunrise Duet” and were curious about Tanner and Rita in those books, then you have to read their story. You will love them.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
