Jenny Review 2019

Roni Loren continues our journey with the Long Acre survivors with The One You Fight For. This story follows Taryn a Long Acre survivors who also lost her sister in the shooting who is focus on her program that can help prevent a tragedy like Long Acre. And Shaw Miller aka Lucas Shaw, who’s brother was one of the shooters, he comes back to the area after a long hiatus to start a new career.

Taryn and Shaw (who is going by an alias Lucas) meet at a random night in a bar. Encouraged by her friend, fellow Long Acre survivor Kincaid to have a random hookup. Shaw, who is trying to keep a low profile with his connection with one the shooters, is interested but have decided to isolate himself from any kind of romantic relationship. Taryn and Shaw then have several chance run-ins, connecting but also weary of starting anything more than a causal relationship. When the truth of how Shaw is connected to the Long Acre shooting come to light, Taryn is faced with many difficult decisions and how the sins of the past comeback to haunt Taryn and Shaw relationship and the lives of their families and friends.

Once again Roni shows that the tragedy that all of the long acre survivors has a profound impact on their lives even after all these years.  She shows that not only the survivors suffer but the families of the shooters are greatly affected by the aftermath as well, which is not something most people think about.  I like the relationship between Taryn and Shaw but I was not drawn to them like Olivia and Finn. The chemistry more times than not fizzled for me. And at time I felt that the conflicts had a quick buildup and resolution. I do appreciate how real the emotions of the main characters are and I like that the other survivor is feature a bit throughout the book. I still like this series and cannot wait for Kincaid’s story.
